Good evening gentlemen,
Thank you all for voting and sharing your comments and suggestions. It is important to both Joel and myself that everyone feels comfortable to share their ideas and opinions within our racing family.
There were some concerns regarding the leagues finances. The league is on sound financial footing. We are fortunate to have some very generous members and when requested many donate money to fund our RaceSpot broadcasts which, at this time, is our one major expense. This is because some members personally pay for the cost of our website, scoring site, and race/practice sessions. Still more members donate their time and talent providing race highlight photos, weekly kickoff posts with analysis, maintaining our website, race setups, general administration, and stewardship. We are blessed with such a wonderful group of members in our racing family.
We have decided to pursue both options 1 and 2 on a trial basis for the remainder of this season.
Proposal 1: Support the official Pro Mazda series.
Overwhelmingly the Monday 3:45 EDT start time for the official series lead the polling. We could have up to 15 of our league members running this session. It is not required to race these sessions, simply a request to help support the series and give members an extra day of racing. There were some concerns about splits, but looking at the participation history it doesn't appear this will be an issue, but we won't know unless we try.
Starting next Monday February 4, we are suggesting that any member who can and wants to race, try making the 3:45 EDT official series. We can use Discord as a meeting spot so members can choose the same practice session prior to the race. (just a thought)
Proposal 2: Addition race day with a different car.
The Ferrari squeaked out a narrow polling victory.(9 Ferrari vs. 8 Radical) The main advantage driving the Radical is iRacing provides track specific sets for each track. The main advantage driving the Ferrari is it opens up the opportunity to race multi-car series/races and the iRacing "special endurance events" We will be able to participate in these events with a car we will be very familiar driving.
Starting next Thursday February 7 we will run both the Radical and Ferrari using the following schedule and times. These are not official races with points or standings, just another opportunity each week to have more racing.
Thursday February 7: 1:40 EDT Radical @ Interlagos
Friday February 15: 2:40 EDT Radical @ Sebring
Thursday February 21: 1:40 EDT Ferrari @ Zandvoort Friday March 1: 2:40 EDT Ferrari @ Watkins Glen
The session's practice will be 70 minutes starting at the posted time with 10 minutes qualifying (2 laps) and 40 minutes available for racing (laps to be determined). We will use our normal weather/track conditions of 68 degrees, 55% Humidity, 1 MPH wind, partly cloudy, and a 10% starting track state. The sets will be the iRacing track specific set for the Radical and the baseline set for the Ferrari. I will make a post in Richard's weekly thread reminding everyone of the current week's additional sessions.
Let's use these additional races to support the Pro Mazda series, get a feel for different cars, iron out any kinks, and determine how we want to move forward. (car, day, and time)
